CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY :
Albendazole in Allin 1 exhibits a broad soectrum anthelmintic activity showing vermicidal, ovicidal and larvicidal activity. It inhibits tubulin polymerization in the parasite and blocks glucose uptake. Energy levels are reduced and death of the parasite result. Susceptible parasites include hookworm, roundworm, whipworm, tapeworm, strongyloids, opisthorchis and hydatid disease(Echinococcus).

INDICATIONS :

  1. Hookworm Infestation
    -Ancylostoma Duodenale
    -Necator Americanus
  2. Round worm (Ascaris Lumbricoides)
  3. Thread worm (Enterobius)
  4. Whipworm (Trichuris Trichuria)
  5. Tapeworm (Taenia sp.)
  6. Strongyloides Stercoralis
  7. Opisthorchis viverrini
  8. Hydatid disease (Echinococcus granulosa)
  9. Neurocysticercosis
  10. Capillariasis
  11. Giardiasis
  12. Microsporidiosis

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION :
As a general recommendation, a single dose of 400 mg albendazole (Allin1) tablets or suspension may be given to both adults and children over 2 years of age. Normally for children under 2 years, a 200 mg dose is given. The tablets are flavoured, and are meant to be chewed. No special procedure like fasting or purging are required.

  1. Hookworm : Single dose of 400 mg.
  2. Round worm : A single dose of 400 mg. Children less than 10 kg. may be given 200 mg, as a single dose.
  3. Thread worm : A single dose of 400 mg. Children less than 10 kg. may be given 200 mg, as a single dose.
  4. Whipworm : A single dose of 400 mg. Children less than 10 kg. may be given 200 mg, as a single dose.
  5. Tapeworm : 400 mg / day for 3 consecutive days.
  6. S. Stercoralis : 400 mg / day for 3 consecutive days.
  7. Opisthorchis : 400 mg b.i.d. for 3 days.
  8. Hydatid disease : 10 mg / kg / day for 4-8 weeks.
  9. Neurocysticercosis : 400 mg b.i.d. for 30 days.
  10. Capillariasis : 400 mg b.i.d. for 10-20 days.
  11. Giardiasis (in children) : 400 mg daily. for 5 days.
  12. Microsporidiosis . (common finding in AIDS patients with diarrhea) : 400 mg b.i.d. for 14days

CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Pregnancy :
Albendazole is known to be teratogenic and embryotoxic in some animals. Therefore it should not be administered during pregnancy or in women thought to be pregnant.

ADVERSE REACTIONS :
Symptomatic adverse effects occur only in a small percentage of patients and these are mild and transient, and include epigastric pains, diarrhea, headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, constipation, pruritus and dry mouth.
